Susan Wile Schwarz coordinates NCCP's Adolescent Health Initiative, formally entitled: Improving the State Policy Context for Comprehensive Preventive Health Care for Disadvantaged Youth and funded by Atlantic Philanthropies. Her work involves the promotion of adolescent health and youth development with a focus on the public dialog, examination of best policy practices, and expanding opportunities to contribute to a national policy framework.
Prior to joining NCCP, Susan served as the Research & Communications Coordinator for Transdiaspora Network, an HIV-prevention and human capacity-building initiative that offers community-based, culturally proficient preventive interventions for Caribbean youth in Brooklyn, a position she continues to hold on a volunteer basis. Previously, Susan has also worked on a variety of community-based sustainable development and health projects around the world (Thailand, Vietnam, India, Israel, the West Bank, Gaza, Bosnia) and, most recently, as the managing editor of an indie music magazine. Among Susan's contribution to NCCP is work experience at the intersection of culture and health-seeking behaviors, and innovative uses of media to promote health initiatives.
She holds a joint BA in American History and Middle Eastern and Asian Languages and Cultures from Columbia University and a Master's in Public Health from the Department of Global Health at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University.
